Having just finished a History of Art degree, I was especially looking forward to wondering around the Museo Picasso, a museum dedicated to one of the most influential Cubist artists of the 20th century.
It's best to get there quite early and be prepared to queue even in the morning. But whilst you wait to get in down a little alleyway, these three street musicians will certainly liven the atmosphere by singing popular Salsa songs and soon enough you'll find yourself along with your fellow art enthusiasts from the queue singing along too!
The museum houses key pieces from the formative years of the artist and his strong relationship with Barcelona. The paintings are mostly from his early years, up to and including the famous Blue Period.
After a couple of hours soaking up the inspiring paintings from Picasso's vivid imagination, some fresh air was needed.
With a beach day planned we decided to take the scenic route and strolled through the historical garden, the Parc de la Ciutadella.
This beautiful garden also houses the Barcelona zoo and many locals who didn't quite make it to the beach, can be found sunbathing here instead.
I wore a River Island maxi dress with a side slit over an ASOS 50s Style Bikini Top and pink and balck Accessorise wedges.
I got so engrossed in photographing all the gorgeous flowers I got left behind and lost the girls! But luckily they found me...bending over a bush trying to photograph yet even more flowers!
All that panic and walking had made us hungry so it was time for lunch and some quick sunbathing before we hit the beach. The lake in the park looks a bit like a huge tropical lagoon, filled with tall palm trees, a huge fountain and the greenest water I had ever seen. But it's a lovely and peaceful place to go rowing if you want to avoid the zoo crowds.
This little fellow came over to say hola!
Whilst walking to the beach you'll pass a lot of wonderful and unique buildings and the area nearest the sea seems to be filled with more modern architecutre.
Once you spot the gigantic glistening fish tail, you know you're heading in the right direction.
The trek to the beach will definitely be worth it once you set eyes on the amazing view and feel the cooling breeze through your hair.
You walk through all the crowds until you find a free pacth of sand to claim as yours.
Let the swimming and sunbathing begin!
